I had the ULTIMATE pleasure last night of  being an audience member in  one of the most beautiful, dream-like performances I have ever seen.

For my dear friend Jenny’s birthday, we went to experience the dark acrobatic-music-dance show that is CIRQUE BERZERK under a REAL big top in downtown LA.

This was an event from the time we drove into the parking lot to the late hour when we dragged ourselves out of the dance tent, drunk on the etherial show and spinning from the speakeasy sounds of the 17-piece after-show band.

From the moment we entered the tent, we were transported, not just into another time, but into another consciousness…acrobatics, arial fabric, dance, mime, live music…it was one dark, beautiful, clever, gothic dream (think “Cabaret” meets “Nightmare Before Christmas” meets flight) that spit me out feeling dazed and excited.

After we stumbled out of the big top, it was on to another tent where the fun, sexy, speakeasy sounds of VAUDE AND THE VILLAINS crooned to us until late into the night with music that made you feel like you were on the lam…but able to pull over just long enough for a swig of moonshine and a song before it was back on the open road.

Jenny, Amanda and I joined the dancing mob with red clown noses firmly on our face and celebrated Jenny’s birthday, celebrated little gems in the heart of LA, and just plain celebrated being alive.

Unfortunately, this is the last weekend of CIRQUE BERZERK, but I plan on making this my go-to summer splurge and I can’t wait to go with a new crop of Angelenos and experience this joy all over again.

See ya under the big top next year!!

xoxoxo,
