Perfectly Seared Salmon

Do you ever go to a restaurant and wonder how they get a salmon with such a beautiful sear? And that you’d even pay double for your meal just to learn how to do it? Often when we cook salmon (or even chicken for that matter) at home, the color comes out bland and frankly a little unappetizing.

Well now you can have that beautiful crisp flakiness in your own kitchen just by doing a couple EASY things!

Let’s get searing!!

Directions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Pat salmon dry with a paper towel (this is the MOST important part so don’t skip and go another round with another paper towel if you have to!)
  3. Sprinkle generous amount of salt, pepper, (and garlic powder if you have some) onto the top.
  4. Place salmon skin-side up in hot, oiled, oven-safe pan.
  5. Leave salmon undisturbed to for 2-3 minutes so it develops a nice, even sear.
  6. Carefully flip salmon over and bake in oven for about 10 minutes (internal temp of salmon must be at least 145 degrees).
  7. Remove from oven and let rest for 5-10 minutes.
  8. Garnish with lemon juice, melted butter and garlic, dill and creme fraiche, or just eat plain!

NOTES

Remember the two most important rules – pat it dry and don’t move or jostle it when it’s crisping up in the pan!
